Clinical overview
Understanding IVF Treatment
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is one of modern medicine’s most established and successful assisted reproductive technologies. At Mysuru Fertility Centre, IVF is not a one-size-fits-all formula. Every cycle begins with an in-depth evaluation of ovarian reserve, pelvic anatomy, and sperm parameters to design an individualised stimulation protocol. Mature eggs are gently collected under short sedation and fertilised in our Class-100 cleanroom laboratory under the direct care of senior embryologists.

Step by step
What actually happens, stage by stage
Knowing the sequence in advance removes a great deal of anxiety. Timings are typical rather than fixed, and yours will be confirmed by your specialist.
-
Consultation and protocol design
Diagnostic baseline · Day 1–3 of cycle
Comprehensive AMH, AFC and semen review to determine the exact gonadotropin stimulation dosage.
-
Controlled ovarian stimulation
Follicular recruitment · 9–12 days
Self-administered subcutaneous hormonal injections over 9 to 12 days, to encourage multiple follicles to mature evenly.
-
Serial monitoring scans
Precision tracking · 3–4 clinic visits
Transvaginal ultrasound and oestradiol blood checks every two to three days to monitor follicle diameters.
-
Trigger injection
Final maturation · Hour 0
A precise hCG or GnRH agonist injection given 35 to 36 hours before retrieval, to complete egg meiosis.
-
Egg retrieval
Gentle aspiration · 15–20 minutes
An ultrasound-guided procedure under light sedation, gently aspirating the follicular fluid that contains mature eggs.
-
Laboratory fertilisation
Embryology suite · Day 0–1
Mature eggs are combined with washed, high-motility sperm, or microinjected via ICSI where indicated.
-
Extended blastocyst culture
Day 3 to Day 5 · 5–6 days
Embryos develop in low-oxygen tri-gas incubators, reaching the 100-cell blastocyst stage.
-
Embryo transfer and follow-up
Comfortable placement · 10 minutes
A soft catheter places the selected blastocyst gently into the receptive endometrial cavity.

Frequently asked about IVF Treatment
A standard IVF cycle spans approximately 4 to 6 weeks. This includes 10 to 12 days of stimulation injections, egg collection, 5 days of laboratory embryo culture, and the 14-day wait for the post-transfer serum hCG blood test.
Egg retrieval is conducted under light sedation administered by an experienced anaesthetist. You will be comfortable and asleep during the 15-minute procedure, experiencing only mild period-like cramps for a few hours afterwards.
Day 3 embryos consist of 6 to 8 cells, whereas Day 5 blastocysts have developed into more than 100 cells, differentiated into an inner cell mass and trophectoderm. Blastocyst culture allows natural self-selection of the strongest embryos.
