In standard IVF, eggs and sperm are placed together in a specialised culture dish to fertilise naturally. In ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), a single selected sperm is injected directly into a mature egg using precision micro-instruments.
An IVF cycle follows distinct stages: initial consultation, ovarian stimulation, follicle monitoring, egg retrieval, laboratory fertilisation, embryo development, embryo transfer, and pregnancy assessment. Each stage is explained to you before it begins.
The timeframe varies by treatment type. An IUI cycle typically spans 2 to 3 weeks, while a full IVF or ICSI cycle usually takes 4 to 6 weeks from the start of stimulation to the pregnancy evaluation.
